If so, do not miss this opportunity to showcase your technical expertise and assist in the analysis, development and evaluation of new directions and options for geodetic datums and other referencing activities for the province of Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• provide technical expertise in the analysis, development and evaluation of new directions and options for geodetic datums and other referencing activities for the province
• consult with internal and external clients, partners, management and the LRC for the analysis of data and information requirements related to provincial control data and long term needs
• administer and manage the provincial geodetic control survey known as database known as COSINE (COntrol Survey INformation Exchange) by administering data load projects, troubleshooting issues and maintaining the integrity of the data and data model
• participate in the development of provincial standards for new datums and referencing systems adopted by the Province
• provide technical advice and guidance on control surveys and COSINE

How do I qualify?

Technical knowledge and skills:

• You have demonstrated experience working with the theories, principles and practices of geodesy, geodetic data processing and analysis, and control surveying.
• You have knowledge of geodetic datums (horizontal and vertical), coordinate systems and transformations, statistical theory of measurement errors; least squares adjustment methods; and mathematical coordinate transformation techniques.
• You have knowledge and technical skills in performing network adjustments; analyzing network accuracies; and computing different coordinate systems to derive control survey values, check for quality and ensure compliance with ministry standards.
• You have demonstrated work experience with field methods and equipment used in conducting control surveys (e.g., GNSS, GPS, precise levelling and total station) to ensure high-quality deliverables are being produced.
• You have knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications for data analysis, verification and map-making.
• You have knowledge of geodetic data management and information management principles and practices concerning the quality, use and value of data and information, including the importance of data standards, data life cycle, data architecture, data conversion, data exchange and data distribution.
• You have excellent technical skills and knowledge of computer systems including Windows and Oracle and geodetic analysis software packages; computer programming (i.e. Java, SQL) for development of geodetic mathematical and statistical processing tools.
• You have knowledge of data management and information architecture theory, principles & techniques, and data modelling.

Analytical and problem solving skills:

• You have well developed research and analytical skills to test new directions and options for positioning and referencing technologies and techniques and the ability to identify requirements for changes to procedures, standards and specifications.
• You have highly developed analytical skills to assess survey control networks and reports with the ability to detect errors and confirm accuracy to ensure compliance with ministry and provincial standards.
• You can analyse data and information requirements in relation to provincial control data, program goals/objective and short/long term business plans and strategies.
• You have well developed problem solving skills to resolve administrative, technical and survey control issues referred from ministry, municipality and various service provider surveyors.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You have excellent communication skills to lead project-specific and general control surveys guidelines, establish parameters with provincial, federal and municipal governments, Service Providers and the private sector.
• You have well developed interpersonal skills to liaise and provide project updates/information, and support services to the program area.
• You have communications skills to interpret, explain technical geodetic advice, concepts, techniques to clients and staff.
• You have written communication skills to prepare various documents, reports, and correspondence.

Consultation and negotiation skills:

• You have well developed consultation skills to determine client needs and requirements in order to effectively build and sustain the ministry's control surveys program.
