Do you have a passion for creating amazing graphics and animations? Intrigued by the challenge of communicating science to people of all ages? Excited by the opportunity to join a team of passionate and creative science communicators?

As an Exhibit Motion Graphics (Animation) Specialist, you will provide creative and innovative multimedia solutions for the development of exhibition content, including motion and still graphics, animation, and digital content for online and on-site interactive experiences. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure that the graphic elements support the overall direction and design intent of the exhibit, with the purpose of communicating complex scientific principles in an engaging and accessible manner for our core audience of families with children.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As an Exhibit Motion Graphics (Animation) Specialist, you will:
• Analyse and determine the requirements for graphic/digital content of new and existing exhibit experiences.
• Prepare preliminary storyboards, sketches, and design proposals to support the exhibit development process.
• Work collaboratively and creatively to propose specific graphic treatment for stand-alone pieces or to work within the guidelines of an overall design direction for piece(s) that are part of a larger exhibition.
• Use specialized graphic design/animation skills to produce thoughtful and engaging motion and interactive graphics solutions for use in a variety of exhibition elements.
• Execute design work using industry standard software applications related to motion graphics, still graphics, video editing.
• Provide advice to team members regarding the theoretical and technical possibilities of various multimedia graphic design approaches.
• Plan and execute course of action with team members to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge and Skills

• Expert knowledge and application of graphic design work and its principles.
• Advanced experience in, and knowledge of, motion graphics design (animation), graphic communications theory, interactive design and interface principles, including their potential for use in exhibition development.
• General knowledge of still graphics design, illustration and related skills to produce custom exhibit elements and images, signs, print material and merchandise, as required.
• Knowledge of the principles governing accessibility-compliant design.
• Demonstrated technical skills related to the use of multimedia editing tools such as Adobe After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator and other industry applicable software.

Communication Skills

• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts within a public environment, particularly for a target audience of families with children.
• Ability to collaborate with team members effectively in order to develop designs that are consistent with the overall plan and concept of the exhibit
• Analytical and evaluative skills to assess the nature of the assignment and creative problem-solving skills to develop appropriate design options
• Ability and willingness to take initiative in order to resolve conflict, reach consensus, and contribute to successful outcomes through teamwork.
• Strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with internal and external clients, managers, colleagues and vendors.

Organizational Skills and Judgment

• Excellent time management skills to independently develop, plan and complete work within the parameters of an assignment.
• Ability to exercise good judgment in order to identify, solve and escalate problems as required.
• Planning and organizational skills to advise manager on project-related budgets and timelines, preferred courses of action, and related risks/benefits.
