Consider this great opportunity with the Civil Law Division, Law Library, where you will oversee and carry out the processing and cataloging of legal material while exploring and integrating new innovative library technology.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• This position offers flexibility in work hours, within reason of operational requirements for Library operations.
• With the variety of responsibilities for the Technical Services Librarian position, there is considerable growth opportunities within the OPS such as internal courses, communities of practice, and the variety of tasks within the position itself
• The OPS offers flexible vacation time depending on operational requirements.
• MAG Legal Information Services (Law Library) has a digital first outlook regarding procurement of legal research resources, with high prioritization of online resources over print.

In this challenging role, you will:
• maintain daily library functions in the areas of Library Operations, Records and Information Management, Research & Reference, Vendor & Library Collection Duties and Administrative Duties
• establish and implement procedures to coordinate all functions of library technical services
• research and resolve various automated cataloging problems and refer difficult or unusual situations to the Library Manager and Justice Technology Staff
• order and process print and online law library materials, assess their value to the collection and retrieve and archive them for the library collection
• keep abreast of technical and other developments and trends in the Library and Information Services, Records Management
• maintain Library statistics and coordinate with Web Services Librarian as required
• assist with reference/research questions, administrative duties as required

• support administrative duties by completing cost-recovery Journals to office managers, reconcile invoices and assist with general bookkeeping
• perform multiple tasks concurrently with attention to detail
• prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities

Specialized Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of library administration usually attained through a graduate program such as Masters of Library Science (MLS), Masters of Library Science (MLS), Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Masters of Information Science (MIS) or Masters of Information (MI) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program
• You have advanced bibliographic and cataloging knowledge and training to prepare bibliographic records
• You can classify and catalog the collection's print and electronic resources Resource Description and Access (RDA), the successor to Anglo American Cataloguing Rules, knowledge of web, metadata and taxonomy standards to organize legal information

Computer Skills:

• You can develop and manipulate documents, reports, spreadsheets and data bases using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
• You have experience with cataloging software such as GENIE or other similar applications
• You have experience using metadata-related standard formats such as MARC format and/or other formats
