What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will use your skills to perform a variety of analytical chemical/physical analysis and testing of various types of environmental samples at the Deloro Arsenic Treatment Plant and mine site as well as perform test procedures, quality control and maintenance of the analytical equipment.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• Post-secondary laboratory science Chemical technologist program with related work experience or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and related work experience.
• Skills and knowledge with inductively coupled plasma (ICP) mass spectrometry and atomic absorption (AAS) spectrophotometry
• Must be willing to work with Designated substances (Arsenic, Lead) and periodically work in the vicinity of low level radioactive waste
• Conducting chemical/physical analysis of water & wastewater by applying established methods/procedures and quality control documentation
• Sample preparation for ICP or AAS analysis, standards preparation and lab clean-up
• Conduct/direct maintenance of analytical equipment
• Knowledge and/or training in radiation safety protection practices
• Knowledge and/or experience in Landfill operations and maintenance
• Input, maintain, and verify information in a variety of databases and spreadsheets
• Assist client in preparing several annual reports

Skills and Ability include

• Problem solving skills to conduct tests evaluate data and determine results by selecting from a variety of established procedures, standards and techniques (e.g. evaluating results against defined quality control criteria)
• Analyzing skills to analysis/monitor/control the processes of water and wastewater treatment facilities; determining recommended process or chemical adjustment
• Liaise with MOECC, representatives from outside labs, chemical and equipment suppliers; communication skills are required to report process conditions to management
• Position requires attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines
• Proven ability to handle multiple responsibilities, while prioritizing and coordinating daily tasks
