The Ministry of Transportation is undergoing a transformation and will implement a new organizational model. The ministry will move from five divisions to a total of seven divisions. Five of these divisions will be new, with branches that are organized in different ways and deliver on new priorities. MTO TransformationWhat can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
• assist in design projects for transportation infrastructure
• identify information requirements and assemble the information
• investigate design alternatives and prepare designs
• make highway design recommendations
• prepare highway designs and related plans
• carry out detailed design drainage studies
• assist in preparing final contract and tender documents
• calculate quantities and cost estimates
• support senior designers and project management staff in reviewing corridor management issues
• prepare presentation materials, correspondence, and assist in preparation of reports
How do I qualify?
Engineering design knowledge and skills:
• You have knowledge of highway planning and design principles and contract estimating.
• You have knowledge of construction and engineering survey practices.
Computer proficiency:
• You can use specialized software related to the highway planning and design process, such as AutoCad, Softdesk, and InRoads.
• You can use standard word processors, spreadsheets, databases and presentation software.
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• You have effective written and oral communications skills to work effectively within the design team and prepare reports.
Analytical skills:
• You can interpret data, address design issues and investigate design alternatives.
