The Ministry of the Solicitor General (SolGen) is one of the Ontario government's largest ministries with more than 16,000 employees across the province.

SolGen's Modernization Division, Ministry of the Attorney General and Justice Technology Services (JTS) along with other justice sector partners have been busily collaborating on the Criminal Justice Digital Design (CJDD) initiative to deliver on the justice ministries' vision of a sustainable criminal justice system where information is digitally connected and securely available to those who need it in real time, throughout the life-cycle of the criminal case.

The newly formedCriminal Justice Transformation Branch plays an integral role by providing leadership and strategic direction for the design and delivery of a user-centric, connected, scalable and modern digital solution ecosystem. Leveraging existing IT investments including platforms, technologies and tools, CJDD creates connections across existing and new technologies for Police, the Courts, Crowns and Corrections, allowing for streamlined, seamless, real-time sharing of data, documents and multi-media.

The Opportunity
Criminal Justice Transformation Branch is looking for dynamic, highly motivated Senior Product Managers with experience in digital product delivery to join our team to deliver and chart the future of government digital services.

We are looking for individuals with a background in developing digital products. We seek energetic self-starters, with strong leadership capabilities. The ideal candidates should have demonstrated experience delivering digital products either in the traditional online; government; new digital offering or related technologies. Your responsibilities include working closely with internal and external program and engineering team members. You will interact with many other groups to define and deliver world class products in an exciting, fast-paced environment. The selected candidates will challenge assumptions and design products first and foremost with Ontarians in mind despite the complexity that is often behind the scenes. You must possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• You will lead products from concept to release, using MS Project while ensuring smooth operations and continuous product improvement.
• You will provide Treasury Board report-backs along with Ministerial communications.
• You will provide benefits realization input and feedback.
• You will lead products at scale that have millions of users such as Digital Identity, Notifications, Licence Plate Sticker Renewal, Driver's Licence and Health Card renewals and address changes
• You will build solid relationships with partners to understand users' needs, program goals, and the program's policies and operational constraints so that you can develop products that are valuable, usable and feasible.
• Based on expert advice, research, and benchmarking, you will develop a product roadmap to deliver on the public's evolving expectations.
• You will provide product management advice and guidance across the Ontario Digital Service and throughout the Ontario Public Sector to share expertise and build digital capacity in government

How do I qualify?

Product Leadership

• You have experience developing a product vision, and have led multi-disciplinary teams to achieve that vision from concept to launch using agile methods
• You have strong decision making and prioritization skills
• You have experience collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to translate the product vision into a backlog and lead the team through smooth and continuous delivery.
• You have experience working on a mature product balancing the need to address technical debt with new product enhancements through continuous iterations.

Digital Leadership

• You use data to make decisions, gathering anonymous data insights by design to improve product outcomes,
• You are passionate about the user, putting users at the centre of all you do.
• You work out loud and encourage your team to communicate process to coworkers and to partners throughout their work.
• You encourage and embrace different methods of work, when it comes to time, place, environment, tools, and process of your team.
• You ask questions and challenges assumptions.
• You embrace and learn from failure.

User experience and design

• You empathize with users that you target including gaining understanding of their values, priorities, perceptions, tolerances, and experiences.
• You have knowledge of user experience design and user research principles and concepts.
• You are able to communicate to designers and articulate what is and isn't working about a design.
• You can translate user or data insights into actionable design comments and critiques.

Communications

• You communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, cross-functional teams and across business lines.
• You have experience influencing others by persuasion rather than authority – making your case through excellent communication, speaking clearly to be easily understood, and writing powerfully to persuade.
• You have experience working with a complex group of stakeholders to understand and support their users' needs.

Technical Experience

• You demonstrate curiosity and seek to understand how a product technically works.
• You are able to dive into the technical details and are able to understand technical concepts that are explained to you.
• You have a thorough knowledge of and experience with a broad range of technologies, including common internet protocols, web analytics, semantic markup, REST, and other foundational web technologies that underpin modern digital applications.
• You embed privacy and security into product delivery processes and design.
