What can I expect to do in this role?
This position is a key contributor to the digital and visual design strategy of the Science Centre and by applying your expertise, you will:
- Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with internal partners and external stakeholders in strategizing and executing our digital brand and marketing efforts to drive increased engagement and turn business requirements and creative strategy into seamless user experiences.
- Act as a subject matter expert in developing visual/graphic content and in creating and implementing enhanced brand guidelines.
- Design, create and spearhead the implementation of visual web content, standards and guidelines while identifying creative ways of displaying information to achieve marketing goals.
- Collaborate with a team of designers, writers, and marketing staff to design and develop wireframes, prototypes, and requirements.
- Coordinate project activities, establish project schedules, estimate costs of activities/resources, and ensure timely and quality outcomes of project deliverables.
- Research and recommend visual concepts for target audiences by analyzing client needs.
- Provide technical support for other forms of graphic design, photography and video initiatives; advise on technical solutions for web/graphic design.
How do I qualify?
Technical Experience and Knowledge:
You have:
- Experience in developing a wide variety of graphic design, web design and video products from concept to production for various channels and platforms (web, email, social channels, etc.) in support of an overarching branding strategy.
- Demonstrated knowledge of communications and design principles, best practices and trends in digital media, print and web content, event media design and production.
- A strong understanding of user experience design for web, email and digital applications including what motivates audience experience and behaviour.
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator and experience in HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, and responsive/mobile-first design.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements and World Wide Web Consortium's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 level AA.
- Knowledge in digital image and video editing theories, styles and principles to promote and identify user interaction/response to services/products.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
You have:
- Oral and written communications skills, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and strong relationship management skills when working on projects.
- Interpersonal and relationship management skills to build collaborative relationships with diverse internal/external stakeholders, lead projects and develop consensus between varying points of view on design strategy.
- Liaising skills to connect with clients and suppliers of services to ensure creative design products are developed and delivered according to schedules and branding guidelines.
Research, Analytical and Problem Solving Skills:
You have:
- Problem solving skills to determine opportunities and solutions for creative services in meeting communications objectives or resolving communications problems.
- Problem solving skills to resolve issues such as changes in client requirements, delays in production, or lack of materials needed to complete projects.
- Analytical skills to re-evaluate strategies based on internal priorities, product offerings or programs and to recommend operational improvements.
- Research skills to synthesize information from various sources and develop creative plans and actions; identify target audiences and appropriate measures to reach them.
Project Management and Planning Skills:
You have:
- Time management and planning skills to handle multiple competing projects and operate in a fast-paced work environment requiring re-sequencing on an ongoing basis.
- Organization skills to coordinate production activities, filming/photography requirements, schedules, equipment, travel arrangements and accommodations.
- Experience establishing project schedules and estimating the cost of activities/resources required for graphic and video production.
