About the job

In this role you will:

• Negotiate to purchase property and recommend appropriate compensation settlements
• Recommend and produce documents required to initiate expropriation proceedings according to ministry procedures
• Carry out property management activities including disposing surplus land, leasing and coordinating property maintenance repairs
• Prepare and / or review detailed property appraisals and reports
• Work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
• Procure and manage consultants and contractors to carry out services on behalf of the ministry
• Demonstrate expertise in real estate matters of a technical nature including legal, appraisal and negotiations
• Review and interpret legal descriptions, engineering drawings, surveys, plans and other related documentation

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

You have:
• Valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario
• Oral French language skills at the advanced level.

Real Estate Knowledge

You have:
• Knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of appraisals, negotiations, disposal and land management activities
• Experience in acquiring, managing and disposing property rights
• Ability to interpret and apply the Expropriations Act, and have knowledge of other relevant statues and regulations (e.g., Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, Planning Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, Residential Tenancies Act, Registry Act, Land Titles Act, Surveys Act)

Technical Skills

You have:
• Ability to read, interpret and understand legal descriptions, survey plans, engineering drawings and directives, guidelines, reports, letters, memos
• Ability to review and prepare property appraisal reports, agreements and other related technical and legal documentation
• Mathematical skills to adjust comparable sales properties, calculate claims and appropriate compensation
• Comprehension and investigative skills to review correspondence and reports, define and research the issues and make recommendations on course of action
• Problem- solving and analytical skills to resolve contentious issues

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

You have:
• Oral and written communication skills to resolve issues with property owners and/or their legal representatives
• Interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective working relationships
• Communication skills to effectively discuss and explain procedures and documents to property owners and to produce detailed reports and submissions

Computer Skills

You are:
• Proficient with MS Office and database applications
