If so, consider this exciting opportunity with the Communications Branch in the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, where you will lead a cross-functional team of writers, designers and technical staff and provide strategic digital communications and channel management advice to the branch, ministry clients, Deputy Minister's Office, the Minister's Office and Cabinet Office Communications.

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing works with local governments and partners across Ontario to build safe and strong urban and rural communities with dynamic local economies, a high quality of life and affordable and suitable homes for everyone. The Communications Branch leads public and internal communications initiatives in support of ministry priorities and program delivery. Services include development of communications strategies, media and stakeholder relations, digital content, graphic design, writing services, and event planning.

About the job

• manage the development and implementation of digital campaigns directed to public and stakeholder audiences, including leading-edge strategies, plans and provision of services and support for e-government initiatives
• lead the delivery and planning of digital communications campaigns and initiatives, ensuring consistency with branding and visual identity standards
• provide strategic digital communications and technical advice, services, strategies and products to senior management
• provide strategic digital, corporate communications and event management advice to ministry clients and branch including senior management, Minister and Deputy Minister's offices
• lead, plan and guide the execution of the strategic communications direction for the ministry's digital communications and operations
• oversee the ministry's online communication channels, including social media and website
• lead and guide a team, develop and foster effective partnerships and coordinate business activities by overseeing the day-to-day work of team members
• promote the ministry brand and services to public and stakeholders
• facilitate and manage digital communications projects, ensuring goals and timelines are on track and within budget
• develop and apply performance measures, reporting techniques, metrics and tools
• manage external suppliers (e.g. vendors of record, agencies, graphics, printers)
• act for manager during absences and as needed

What you bring to the team


Strategic Planning, Team Leadership and Project Management Skills

• you can develop and manage digital, corporate communications and events projects, and where appropriate, provide advice to partner ministries and agencies
• you have supervisory skills and demonstrate leadership skills to motivate, mentor and coach staff
• you can effectively communicate values, strategies, expectations, and promote an engaged and inclusive team environment
• you can lead the planning, development, and implementation of team and project activities, using project tools, identifying gaps and recommending solutions to ensure objectives are achieved on time, on budget, and to applicable quality standards
• you have ability to be self-directed, make own decisions and to understand the impact of own actions on others

Knowledge in Communications and Digital Media Expertise

You have:
• knowledge of theories, principles and practices of contemporary communications, journalism, media relations, and public relations, with an ability to focus on government communications approaches, to provide strategic digital communications and channel management advice
• knowledge of traditional, online community, web, social media channels and understanding of emerging technologies and techniques
• specialized knowledge of branding, user experience, digital strategies and communications principles, techniques and best practices to meet Ontario government's overall digital strategy
• understanding and knowledge of the roles of various communications channels and how they relate to the online public and stakeholder experience (e.g., online, advertising, promotions, field research and outreach, partner communications, social media, web, intranet)
• knowledge of industry trends/technologies and techniques for online platforms and social media
• methods and techniques to use the standard Microsoft Office suite, social media tools, web reporting tools, and analytics and related software to conduct program analyses, and develop program recommendations, presentations, reports and briefing notes

Superior Written and Presentation Skills

• you have demonstrated expertise and skill in developing, writing, and delivering presentations to senior management/executives
• you have an amazing eye for detail and can lead and coordinate digital/social media plans and develop high quality content and products, while ensuring plans and strategies meet the needs of the ministry

Relationship Management, Diplomacy and Consensus Building Skills

• you possess diplomacy, tact and relationship management skills to develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with partners and stakeholders within and external to the Ontario Public Service (OPS)
• you can obtain agreement on deadlines and changes to products to achieve a high quality
