Bring your contract administration and leadership skills to this unique opportunity as a Service Coordinator, Electrical with the Operations Division, Ministry of Transportation.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent you will:

• assess electrical and advance traffic management needs;
• direct/monitor employees and contractors in the construction, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, facilities and tunnel electrical system components;
• inspect electrical contracts, area maintenance contracts and manage third party maintenance agreements;
• review electrical designs, provide reports and attend technical review meetings on behalf of the ministry;
• provide technical advice and recommendations on electrical matters;
• serve on various committees and task forces as required;
• monitor and respond to the tunnel alarm systems.

NOTE: this position will require travel on a regular basis.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
• A certificate of qualification for the trade of electrician with electronic endorsement for Maintenance and Construction, as issued by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities

Specialized Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of the practices, procedures, specifications and standards related to the inspection, maintenance, installation and repair of highway electrical devices
• You know electrical codes and safety procedures
• You have knowledge of maintenance requirements associated with highway electrical devices and their support structures

Technical Knowledge:

• You have experience with contract administration, including administrative procedures, reporting requirements and documentation
• You are able to interpret and apply related regulations, policies and directives (i.e. Occupational Health & Safety Act, The Highway Traffic Act, Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act and Environmental Assessment Act)
• You can prepare detailed cost estimates for proposed work
• You are able to administer contract terms, and make recommendations with respect to contractor payment certificates

Communication, Supervisory and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have effective communication skills to provide technical advice and recommendations
• You have well-developed written skills to prepare detailed cost estimates for proposed work
• You have strong negotiation skills to deal effectively with contractors and consultants
• You are able to deal effectively with ministry contacts and the public
• You have supervisory and planning skills to direct and coordinate the activities of assigned ministry staff and contractors
