About the job

• provide warehouse stock and equipment controls through physical inventories, ordering, shipping, receiving, issuing and tracking of equipment, and maintain adequate inventories for Forest Fire Suppression Equipment at all levels of operational readiness
preparing purchasing requirements
• maintain the Fire Inventory Management Information System (IMIS)
• purchase Forest Fire Suppression Equipment and ensure equipment, supplies, and moveable assets are properly stored, identified and labelled
• provide group leadership and training to assigned staff and make recommendations to manager for additional resources during escalated activities
• identify and recommend operational and procedural changes to improve warehouse operations and communications

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• You have a valid class G drivers licence as recognized in the province of Ontario.
• You have a valid certificate of IATA (International Air Transport Association) or the ability to acquire one.
• You have a valid certificate for TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) or the ability to acquire one.
• You have a valid Lift Truck Certification or the ability to acquire one.
• You have the ability to acquire an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) certification.
• You have the ability to work weekends, statutory holidays, extended hours and to be away from home on temporary assignments for periods approximately 19 days during periods of escalated fire activity.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• You have knowledge of fire management principles and practices, (e.g. resource allocation, priority setting of fire resources) and logistics business
rules.
• You have demonstrated experiences with purchasing procedures, stock control and warehouse practices, to ship, receive, and transfer equipment, supplies and moveable assets and to purchase various supplies and services.
• You have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and those Regulations made under the acts to ensure work being performed is safe and workers are aware to protect themselves and others.
• You have knowledge of Forest Fire Suppression Equipment and standards.

Judgement and Organizational Skills:

• You have proven judgement and analytical skills to recommend minimum/maximum requirements and to increase effectiveness of warehouse operations.
• You have planning skills to work independently, meet deadlines, identify priorities and ensure equipment levels and warehouse services are met in normal and escalating fire circumstances.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• You have proven communications skills to train assistant warehouse clerk, with technical procedures (e.g. transactions, requisitions and prepare reports).
• You have interpersonal skills with a high degree of tact and diplomacy to work harmoniously with suppliers and local merchants with an ability to explain OPS purchasing policies and expenditure guidelines.

Group Leadership Skills:

• You have demonstrated group leadership skills and knowledge of the Incident Command System to act as Logistics Boss and other incident command system functions.
• You have excellent organizational skills to assign and schedule work, ensure deadlines are met, monitor completed work, and advise supervisor of problems while making appropriate recommendations for performance improvements.

Computer Skills:

• You have data entry and typing skills to enter and manipulate data and prepare a variety of complex reports.
• You have proven work experience with computer applications such as e-mail, word processing, internet, and ministry inventory and stock control applications as well as Fire Inventory Management Information System (IMIS) to input and retrieve data, prepare reports and to update equipment and asset inventory.
