Do you want to provide direction to maintenance staff and supervise construction and maintenance projects? If so, this role is for you! Join the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries where you will ensure that the modern/historic buildings and grounds at Discovery Harbour, Huronia Historical Parks (HHP) are maintained to high standards. You will also support historic program and special event delivery by providing maintenance assistance for the development, delivery and execution of activities for visitors, partners and stakeholders.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• Provide direction to maintenance crew and maintenance summer students including day-to-day supervision of work assignments
• Operate associated vehicles and equipment including but not limited to tractors, trucks, ATVs, snow removal equipment and lawn mowers
• Provide recommendations about and direction to outside contractors carrying out repairs at the attraction(s) and ensure work is performed in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act
• Inspect all buildings, structures, equipment, washrooms on a regular basis to ensure good working order at all times
• Ensure that all preventative vehicle and equipment maintenance is carried out as per schedules and safe operating practices
• Act as liaison with Infrastructure Ontario and any contracted supplier of services, resolving deficiencies and ensuring scheduled maintenance is complete (i.e. safety systems, fire systems/mechanical systems, etc.)
• Act as main point of contact with licensed partners for repairs to Ministry equipment and to ensure all pre-established maintenance standards are met in accordance with license agreements
• Work with site Manager to plan, design, schedule and implement all construction and/or repair projects
• support historic program and special event delivery by providing maintenance department assistance for the development, delivery and execution of activities for visitors, partners and stakeholders
• Obtain building permits as needed and maintain records/plans/drawings of work performed
• Maintain records and reconcile purchases according to Ministry guidelines
• Perform administrative functions such as managing work orders, maintenance schedules, assisting with maintenance procurements, maintaining maintenance records, using computer for e-mail communications and attendance
• Participate in meetings and training as required.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You must possess a valid class 'G' driver's license or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario, to travel between the sites and perform errands

Business Knowledge

• You have knowledge of the construction industry and various trades in order to provide oversight and make recommendations on construction and maintenance projects at the attraction(s)
• You have knowledge of basic skills in various maintenance trades (i.e. carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing, etc.) to assist the maintenance team in performing maintenance tasks
• You are able to safely operate maintenance vehicles and equipment

Group Leadership and Organizational Skills

• You have demonstrated group leadership skills to work effectively as a team leader with maintenance staff/students and represent HHP with contractors as needed
• You have proven organizational skills to schedule multiple projects without disruption to business
• You are able to prioritize work demands and to maintain various records for the organization related to the buildings, properties and systems

Technical Knowledge

• You have knowledge of relevant legislation, by-laws and codes associated with maintenance and construction work in order to ensure safety, compliance of maintenance projects and to make recommendations to management
• You have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS, and requirements to ensure compliance and worker safety
• You have knowledge of requirements and processes to obtain various permits and assessments associated with construction work

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You have proven communication skills to compose routine correspondence/e-mails, manage work orders and develop scope of work for maintenance projects
• You are able to effectively liaise with contractors and provide direction to maintenance staff, security guards and other stakeholders

Computer Skills

• You are proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and are able to use the internet for sourcing maintenance items and project research
