What can I expect to do in this role?
• Provide skilled trades and general maintenance services for the institution
• Perform duties such as: locksmith, electrical, plumbing, small motor repairs, carpentry, air conditioning, etc.
• Instruct staff and inmate helpers on maintenance tasks and use of tools/equipment
• Assist other skilled tradespeople
• Supervise inmate helpers in assigned maintenance tasks
• Participate and assist on maintenance projects
• Other duties, as assigned
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• You are qualified in one or more of the skilled trades including appropriate license(s) issued by the Government of Ontario OR equivalent acceptable knowledge/experience
Specialized Knowledge and Experience
• You have knowledge and experience performing a wide range of general maintenance work (such as various systems, electrical, water, etc.)
• You are able to work from specifications, plans, and blueprints
• You are experienced in the safe operation of hand/powered tools and equipment
• You have knowledge of health and safety
• You have demonstrated ability to follow workplace policies and protocols in order to ensure a safe and secure work area
Skills
• You have communication skills in order to assist other skilled tradespeople, instruct inmate helpers, as well as interact with correctional staff
• You have problem-solving skills in order to recognize hazards, address maintenance issues, and complete assigned work on time
