Are you interested in influencing how government manages aggregates (pits and quarries), and other underground resources (i.e. oil, gas and salt resources) in Ontario? Are you able to conduct detailed analysis and develop evidence-based policy advice in a dynamic team oriented environment? Then this exciting opportunity with the Policy Division of the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry may be right for you.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• provide evidence-based policy research and analysis, and support project management
• provide policy advice on how the province regulates and manages pits and quarries, and oil, gas and salt resources
• support consultation and engagement with the public and stakeholders for input to policy and program development
• prepare research reports, summaries, risk analyses, statistics, discussion papers, materials, presentations and information packages to support the consultation, education and engagement strategies/initiatives with stakeholder groups
• develop and build partnerships within the Ministry and with other ministries to ensure effective linkages between policy/program development initiatives
• prepare briefing notes, presentations, house notes, issue notes and communications materials
• participate in inter-disciplinary working groups/committees and work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment with other policy professionals

How do I qualify?

Policy and Program Development Knowledge

• You have demonstrated experience applying policy and program development expertise, principles and techniques to participate in the development of policies and programs related to oil, gas, and salt resources and aggregate resources
• You have knowledge of program design and evaluation techniques to provide project leadership and expertise in the development, evaluation and communication of strategic policies, programs, regulations and legislation

Research, Analytical and Investigative Skills

• You have proven ability to determine appropriate data and information sources and apply survey techniques
• You have experience analyzing and summarizing quantitative and qualitative research, environmental scans and analyzing trends from multijurisdictional sources

Interpersonal Skills

• You have relationship management and consultation skills to encourage consensus among internal and external stakeholders
• You have proven consultation and persuasion skills to engage and seek advice from within the government, industry, stakeholders and indigenous organizations
• You have demonstrated advisory and conflict resolution skills to lead project teams, discuss and seek resolution of issues, liaise and gain support with branches/ministries/stakeholders

Communication Skills

• You have proven ability to prepare technical reports, briefing materials, presentations and respond to a range of correspondence
• You can communicate effectively to lead meetings, conduct briefings, deliver training and exchange information and describe technical and specialized information to a variety of audiences

Project Management Skills

• You have experience applying project management methodologies, techniques to lead or participate on branch/division/ministry/government projects

Computer Skills

• You have proficiency with computer software applications for word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, e-mail, data base management and internet
