The BranchThe Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch provides forest fire management services for the province including fire management policies and strategies, fire prevention and detection, and the basic resources for managing forest fires; aviation flight and maintenance crews and equipment in support of forest fire and natural resources management, and other specialized aviation services, including non-scheduled air transport to all government ministries and agencies; and emergency management in response to forest fires, floods, drought/low water, dam failures, erosion, soil and bedrock instability, crude oil and natural gas exploration, natural gas and hydrocarbon underground storage, and salt solution mining emergencies.

What can I expect to do in this role?
You will:
• maintain the ministry's provincial air fleet in an airworthy condition in accordance with regulations established by Transport Canada airworthiness manuals, air navigation orders, air regulation and directions issued by Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES)
• analyze pilot reported flight defects
• assist pilots with loading aircraft and secure cargo
• install and remove special or environmental aircraft equipment
• maintain accurate aircraft maintenance records
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
You must have:
• a valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licence category M1 and/or M2
• a valid restricted radio operator's certificate - aeronautical
• a valid driver's licence
• the ability to obtain an airport security clearance per Transport Canada requirements
• the ability to meet the physical demands of the position
Technical Knowledge
You have:
• working knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), regulations and standards relating to aircraft maintenance services
• the ability to interpret blueprints and technical instructions pertaining to maintenance requirements
• proficiency in technical problem-solving
• working knowledge of the proper function of and experience in repair and diagnosing defects in engines, flight systems, hydraulic systems, avionics systems, undercarriage systems and propulsion systems
• the ability to interpret and follow manufacturers' and regulatory instructions
General Skills
You have:
• good communication skills to interact with clients and other ministry staff
• demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision
• the ability to carry out tasks assigned in a timely manner
• the ability to work with a computerized maintenance system and also maintain hard copy files
• the ability to use precision tools, hand tools and related aircraft test equipment
• the ability to work within the guidelines of ministry policy and procedures, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act
