What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role you will,

  • Provide strategic advice and expertise in developing and implementing all procurement initiatives for a diverse range of goods and services for the Ontario Science Centre
  • Provide advice and review Requests for Bids (RFB), Request for Proposals (RFP), contractual agreements, reports and information for clients and suppliers
  • Assist in the development of product and service delivery specifications and weighted evaluation criteria in consultation with clients to meet operational requirements
  • In consultation with staff, develop and manage large tenders and supplier contract negotiations
  • Investigate and resolve issues with contract compliance and vendor contract performance management
  • Support the analysis of market product and services


How do I qualify?

Purchasing and Contract Knowledge:


  • Experience with procurement policies , directives, procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance and to provide recommendations and advice as a subject expert
  • Strong understanding of the competitive bidding process and applicable contract law to advise clients on risks in business decisions for procurement
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyze trends for the purpose of standardizing, consolidating and coordinating purchasing activities
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of products and services to plan procurement initiatives that respond to needs and issues.


Consultative and Communication Skills:


  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision within a team environment including providing technical guidance to the team
  • Interpersonal skills enabling you to build effective client and supplier partnerships to advise, consult, and negotiate to achieve procurement objectives
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to develop and deliver bid evaluation meetings and client training sessions


Analytical and Administrative Skills:


  • Analytical and evaluative skills to review proposals, analyze procurement buying trends, apply pre-established evaluation criteria and minimize the potential risks or conflicts associated with the preparation of public tender documents and legal contracts.
  • Problem solving skills to determine the appropriate acquisition process from a range of alternatives and to discuss alternate business strategies with clients
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational and problem solving skills to identify and manage issues, identify risks and develop mitigating strategies to successfully carry out major procurement projects from start to finish
  • Ability to analyze client requirements, assess and develop procurement strategies, interpret procurement policies, and assess business risks of procurement plans
  • Well-developed computer and internet skills to research products and services and prepare relevant analysis of procurement data to create useable reports
