In this role, you will use your skills to plan, operate, maintain, and deliver safe water distribution and wastewater collection services, including compliance with operational agreements and all relevant legislation, acts, and regulations.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• Class 1 certification in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment, and Wastewater Collection
• May consider lesser qualified candidates as underfill - minimum Operator-in-Training (OIT), as specified in O.Reg. 128/04 of the Safe Drinking Water Act and O.Reg. 129/04 of the Ontario Water Resources Act.
• Valid Class G driver's license.
• Ability to obtain Class DZ driver's license
• Ability to work 10 hour shifts, (overtime and night shifts may be required)
• Ability to travel extensively in the Greater Toronto Area which will require overnight accommodations
Required Knowledge
• Good knowledge of water and wastewater treatment facilities to operate the facilities.
• Working experience/knowledge of the skilled trades for the maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment and structures, including basic electrical repair, welding, plumbing, millwright, gasfitting and steamfitting.
• Good knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant regulatory and legislative acts, codes, policies, guidelines and procedures related to water and wastewater operations and maintenance; health and safety procedures/WHMIS.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics and chemistry to make calculations for chemical and operating processes.
• Knowledge of maintenance manuals, blueprints and other technical specifications; use and storage of industrial chemicals.
• Familiarity with computers, including monitoring and operating systems.
Required Skills and Ability include
• Analytical, problem-solving, planning and scheduling skills to inspect, operate and monitor the facilities processes and equipment, and perform routine preventive maintenance; take samples of the water and/or wastewater chemicals to make process control adjustments; resolve operating issues.
• Good oral and written communication skills to liaise with a variety of staff, clients, suppliers, keep logs and complete reports. Proven oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative.
• Ability to perform manual labour.
• Ability to perform the following job functions: Fire Hydrant Painting, Fire Hydrant Preventative Maintenance Programs, Fire Hydrant Flow Testing, Watermain Swabbing, Water and Wastewater Chamber Inspections, Manhole Inspections, Stormceptor Inspections, Leak Detection, Acoustic Monitoring of Sanitary Sewers (SL-RAT), Reservoir Cleaning and Disinfection, Watermain Commissioning, Valve Inspection/Operation Programs.
