Do you enjoy working in the fast-paced world of media relations and issues management planning? If so, consider joining the dynamic communications team supporting the Central Agency Communications Unit of Cabinet Office to provide media monitoring services to an extensive and high-profile client group.

Please Note: These unique positions are remote (work from home) opportunities.
2 Temporary irregularly scheduled positions – up to 12 months (with possibility of extension)

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Media Analyst, you will provide support to   Cabinet Office and the Office of the Premier by participating in the preparation of a broad range of digital media products in a high profile, high-pressure, deadline-orientated environment. Media sources include television, radio and both daily and community newspapers;
• Summarize electronic newspaper articles
• Monitor digital TV/Radio media
• Provide transcription services for provincially-relevant news items
• Perform support duties as required to produce deadline-driven daily media products

How do I qualify?

Communication, Interpersonal and Client Service Skills:

• You have excellent written communication skills to create short summaries under the pressure of fixed deadlines
• You have the ability to edit closed captioning text from relevant TV stories, transcribing missing segments, ensuring accuracy and appropriate punctuation
• You have excellent attention to detail to ensure materials are accurately summarized and transcribed
• You can respond to changing priorities quickly and seamlessly
• You have good interpersonal and client service skills to interact with clients and team members
• You have demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team with minimal supervision

Research, Organizational and Computer Skills

• You have excellent keyboarding skills and a demonstrated ability to utilize MS Office software such as Word and Excel for data input
• You have good organizational skills to manage a busy workload in a deadline-driven, high-pressure organization
• You can conduct media scans and analysis to identify issues with potential impacts
• You have excellent research skills with the ability to utilize internet-based search engines using appropriate syntax
• You have the ability to consistently identify and keep up with key government issues while understanding the impacts of the political environment

Knowledge and Experience

• You have a basic understanding of government programs and issues
• You have knowledge of media monitoring technologies, practices, and techniques.
• You have knowledge of journalism and communications theory, principles and techniques

Hours of Work

These are temporary, irregularly-scheduled part-time positions but every effort is made to stabilize staff's working hours to the extent possible. The hours of work will range from 0 to 36.25 hours per week, however work hours are not guaranteed and will vary week to week.

The primary shifts available at this time are:
• 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. or 10:00 a.m., which could fall on any weekday (Monday to Friday),
• 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., which could fall on any weekday evening (Sunday through Thursday),
• 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Friday)
• 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Monday to Friday)

Additional shifts may also be available on an occasional basis.
