Consider this rewarding opportunity with the Ministry of the Solicitor General to join the Ontario Fire College with the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management. In this dynamic role, you will facilitate fire service education and training programs in collaboration with regional training centres, located across the province.

Please note: these roles are headquartered out of 25 Morton Schulman Avenue; in Toronto, however, successful candidates have the ability to be located at alternate off-site/satellite locations across Ontario. Successful candidates may be assigned to a satellite location closest to their residential address if available. In addition, this role requires frequent travel throughout Ontario to locations that may not be accessible via public transit (vehicle can be provided).

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Fire College Instructor, working as part of an integral team, you will:

• Facilitate and teach assigned subjects.
• Participate in the design, development and delivery of course curriculum.
• Coordinate the delivery of various courses.
• Conduct student evaluations.
• Advise and support adjunct instructors.
• This role involves overnight stays and travel across Ontario (as required).

Adult Education Knowledge and Experience

• You have knowledge of, and experience with, adult education principles, techniques, and practices to prepare and present training programs in varied forms across diverse media, including eLearning technology
• You know models of teaching and have experience with curriculum development in order to design and deliver course content

Essential Skills

• You have research, evaluation and time management skills to develop, administer, score, and evaluate written, oral, and practical evaluations
• You have strong oral and written communication skills to deliver course material and presentations
• You have proven experience facilitating adult eLearning synchronously and asynchronously

Fire Service Knowledge

• You have a well-rounded knowledge of fire service professional education and training programs and operations
• You have a keen understanding of fire department operations and fire services personnel roles and responsibilities

  • Effective October 1, 2021, the OPS COVID-19 Safe Workplace Directive requires all Ontario Public Service employees to provide proof they are fully vaccinated, meaning they are fully vaccinated as defined by the Ministry of Health (refer to: COVID-19 Fully Vaccinated Status in Ontario), including 14 calendar days have passed since receiving their final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

    Employees who do not provide proof of full vaccination will be deemed ‘not vaccinated' under the Directive and will be required to attend a vaccine education program and undergo regular rapid antigen testing. Employees who are not vaccinated under the policy with a valid medical exemption will not be required to attend a vaccine education program but must undergo regular rapid antigen testing.

    Effective, January 1, 2022, the updated salary range for this position is $1,529.72 to $1,868.49 per week in alignment with the recently ratified OPSEU Unified 2022-2024 collective agreement.
