What can I expect to do in this role?
As an Assistant Park Superintendent, you will:
• assist in the planning, organizing, and implementation of business, resource management and operational activities
• organize, coordinate, manage and control the operation of assigned recreational, maintenance and development programs in the park
• direct land uses to ensure park compliance
How do I qualify?
Mandatory requirements:
• You must have the ability to be designated as a Park Warden and meet the ministry certification criteria and standards in the use of force.
• You must have a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
• You must have the ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays as per schedule.
• You must have the physical ability to carryout of the duties of the position.
Leadership and enforcement skills and knowledge:
• proven leadership abilities to supervise and develop park staff effectively
• knowledge of the principles and practices of managing emergency situations
• able to enforce various acts and regulations within the park, and to act as supervisor and/or duty officer
• knowledge and experience necessary to lead an enforcement team and to deal with difficult situations
Essential knowledge and skills:
• knowledge of resource management principles and techniques as they apply to provincial park operations to effectively operate the park within guidelines
• knowledge of procurement and accounting practices
• able to operate computers proficiently including common office productivity applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, databases, etc.
• ability to apply and interpret the provisions of relevant government legislations, regulations and policies such as the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Technical knowledge:
• demonstrated experience using various equipment such as chainsaws, cutters, and lawn mowers, etc.
• knowledge of general facility, grounds keeping, utility and equipment maintenance
• knowledge of capital development to understand site development and construction plans
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• communication skills to effectively develop and manage relationships with staff, volunteers, visitors, service providers and other government agencies
• ability to prepare correspondence, incident reports, operating/emergency plans, etc.
• interpersonal and team building skills to provide leadership, monitor performance and promote excellence in customer service and team performance
Analytical and organizational skills:
• analytical skills and the ability to work independently and use good judgement to follow and carry out instructions, manage emergencies and identify/solve problems
• you have arithmetic skills to conduct budget and financial reports
• organizational skills to prepare and maintain schedules, plan, organize and implement work/projects, and to manage competing demands
