The Ministry of Education's Field Services Branch is seeking experienced education professionals and results-oriented leaders to implement ministry initiatives that have an impact on Ontario's students.

We seek three collaborative leaders to join the regional team supporting English and French district school boards within the Central Region, the East Region and the Toronto Region.

About us
The Field Services Branch (FSB) operates through work units in Toronto and six Regional Offices located throughout Ontario. The branch provides operational policy leadership, monitors program implementation in the elementary/secondary education system; clarifies ministry policies and programs to the sector; and ensures field input in the development of ministry policies.

We are currently filling the following positions:
Toronto - Permanent
Ottawa (bilingual English-French) - Temporary, up to 14 months (with possible extension)
Barrie - Temporary, up to 18 months (with possible extension)

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Regional Manager, you will:

• lead a team of professional and administrative staff in the implementation and monitoring of ministry initiatives from Early Years through secondary to adult education
• co-ordinate operational and professional learning activities within the region
• provide strategic advice to senior ministry management and influence cross-ministry policy and program development processes
• support local school boards by providing advice and information on ministry policies, legislative requirements and programs, and respond to inquiries from the public
• be appreciative of the rich diversity found in the Province of Ontario and actively promote strategies which enable all students to reach their potential

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You are proficient in verbal and written French at the Superior level (for Ottawa position only).

Leadership Skills:

• You demonstrate the leadership behaviours, attributes and mindsets to lead the OPS into the future.
• You have leadership skills to motivate both professional and support staff to foster an environment that delivers results.
• You model commitment to diversity, inclusion, accessibility and anti-racism in all aspects of your leadership style.
• You can keep staff engaged and offer supportive leadership while providing opportunities for staff to grow and take ownership of their work.

Technical Knowledge:

• You have a strong knowledge and understanding of the Ontario educational system, education theory, methodology, standards and practices at the elementary and/or secondary school levels.
• You have knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Education Act, education-related policies and programs and school board operations to provide expertise to clients and manage the monitoring of program effectiveness, legislative compliance and policy application at the field level.
• You can develop thorough knowledge of regional education issues and concerns.

Analytical, Policy and Program Skills:

• You have analytical skills to evaluate program effectiveness and legislative compliance, analyze local education issues and identify/act on opportunities for change.
• You have demonstrated analytical skills to assess policy application at the field level, analyze unique issues, and contribute to strategic planning and the policy development process.
• You have demonstrated experience successfully managing highly visible, complex, and politically sensitive issues.

Communication and Relationship Management Skills:

• You have demonstrated stakeholder management skills to build effective relationships as the field ministry representative and liaison with senior school board officials.
• You have proven superior communication skills to prepare and present reports, briefing materials, presentations, issues sheets, policy recommendations and ministerial correspondence.
• You have superior oral communication skills to represent the ministry at the field level and collaborate with other ministry branches and colleagues.
