What can I expect to do in this role?
The HR Business Advisor provides HR strategic support and advice to enable clients to make informed decisions in a wide variety of HR areas. You will collaborate with executives and senior leaders to gain an understanding of their business plans, operational needs and challenges and to ensure people strategies are in place to support the business strategies and goals.
This involves providing services related to talent and performance management, workforce planning, organizational capacity, diversity and inclusion, employee engagement, health, safety and wellness and strategic labour relations in a unionized environment. The HR department is also responsible for leading and supporting a wide range of HR initiatives including youth employment programs, accessibility, and organizational development and learning.
How do I qualify?
Strategic Human Resources Knowledge
• You have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of strategic HR management issues and human capital initiatives and their impact on organizational performance and business effectiveness
• You have advanced knowledge and understanding of concepts and methodologies to identify, guide and direct strategies for organizational development, transformation, culture change, capacity identification, gap analysis, change management and labour relations
• You have knowledge of the theories, practices, and trends related to organizational design and development, including change management, group dynamics, team development, competency-based performance models, leadership development, and employee motivation
• You have applied knowledge of relevant legislation as well as experience interpreting collective agreements and case law, and applying policies, directives and guidelines, prior experience in the broader public sector would be an asset.
Communication, Relationship Management, and Consultation Skills:
• You have a demonstrated ability to synthesize and convey complicated issues with a high-level of accuracy and recommend courses of action to decision-makers
• You have superior consultative and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective business relationships with senior executives and other stakeholders, gather organizational information and provide strategic advice, and work collaboratively across organizational boundaries
• You display strong political acuity to recognize and deal with sensitive situations and develop appropriate responses for clients
• You have written communication, presentation and facilitation skills to prepare and communicate human resources strategies, policies, practices and legislation in a clear, concise and meaningful way
Strategic Planning and Analytical Skills
• You have well-developed conceptual and analytical skills to identify and assess business requirements, organizational issues, and strategies, conduct best practice analysis on human resource issues and to develop strategic HR responses, innovative options and solutions for leaders
• You have proven experience as a detail-oriented, conceptual thinker with strong research skills to understand and analyze complicated issues in view of applicable legislation, directives, policies, and guidelines
• You have demonstrated resourcefulness and research/analytical skills to independently identify, analyze and resolve a range of complex and sensitive issues
Project Management Skills
• You have strong project management skills to lead and/or participate in projects for the development and implementation of corporate initiatives and experience managing a high volume of work with competing priorities and deadlines.
• You have advanced project management and strategic planning skills to lead, oversee, and coordinate cultural transformation and change initiatives, and key projects, activities, and services to support a high-performing organization
• You can effectively lead the full program cycle of projects from conceptualization to development, implementation and evaluation
• You have experience in project methodology and frameworks to support a range of concurrent initiatives, activities and events
