What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• install, service, replace and upgrade electrical equipment required for the facilities, grounds and control systems
• perform minor repairs to electronic components of the HVAC electrical equipment
• inspect, test, troubleshoot and assess wiring systems and equipment, identify safety concerns and conduct repair or replacement of electrical parts
• perform electrical safety inspections to ensure compliance with ESA safety standards and code
• review drawings, blueprints, schematics and technical manuals to carryout modifications, repair work, maintenance and upgrades
• use hand power tools and equipment to perform maintenance repairs and modifications, and operate motorized vehicles

How do I qualify?

Mandatory:

• You possess a valid Certificate of Apprenticeship
• You possess a valid Certificate of Qualification as a Maintenance Electrician (309A)
• You possess a Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) certificate - ARC Flash Certificate
• You have a valid class G driver's licence
• You have the ability to acquire the following during employment: Forklift certificate, Confined Space Entry certificate, High Lift certificate, Cable Locator certificate, Propane Handling certificate and Fall Arrest certificate

Technical skills:

• You can install electrical equipment and devices, control panels and systems, fixtures, machines and wiring to meet ESA specifications and building codes.
• You can perform electrical repairs and maintenance work, and operate tools and equipment safely.
• You can review drawings, schematics and specifications to carryout repair, maintenance and upgrades.

Analytical skills:

• You can assess and resolve problems, and develop options and recommendations.
• You can determine the correct tools, equipment and work methods to be used for repairs and maintenance.
• You can perform basic math calculations.
• You can ensure work is performed within specified timelines.

Technical knowledge:

• You have knowledge of electronics, equipment and tools required to perform repairs and maintenance.
• You are knowledgeable about building and construction materials, methods, technical and diagnostic tools.
• You are have knowledge of computerized building (HVAC) automated systems.
• You have knowledge of relevant ESA legislation, electrical and provincial building codes, the Fire Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

Communication and interpersonal skills:

• You can read, understand, follow and convey instructions and information.
• You can write and record work in the ESA log book.
