What can I expect to do in this role?
Reporting to the Deputy Director of the Ministry of Infrastructure Legal Services Branch, you will:
• Provide strategic legal advice and support to the Ministry of Infrastructure on signature government initiatives and ministry operations that could include government realty strategy, infrastructure strategy, policy and funding, loans programs, and forfeited corporate property
• Provide advice on a wide range of legislative and regulatory issues, agency administration and oversight, funding and lending matters, real property, planning matters, corporate governance and corporate financing, Indigenous law matters with respect to proposed realty and infrastructure activities, duty to consult, and environmental issues
• Work on the development of legislation and regulations as well as on ministerial directions and Orders in Council
• Negotiate, draft, review and advise on a variety of legal instruments, including transfer payment and grant agreements and commercial agreements
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
Knowledge and Skills
• Knowledge of and familiarity with: corporate and commercial law, real property law, land use planning, environmental law, municipal and development law and Indigenous law
• Ability to provide high-quality written and oral legal advice and opinions in these areas including on an urgent basis
• Experience in drafting, negotiating and assessing a variety of commercial and government legal instruments
• Ability to advise program area clients on the development and drafting of legislation and regulations
• Ability to recognize/assess legal implications in ministry practices, programs and policy proposals
• Knowledge of government processes and approvals
