Don't miss this opportunity to play a key role in the development of financial strategic policies that have an impact across the province! We are seeking experienced, creative, team-oriented Policy Analysts to join the Municipal Finance Strategic Policy & Research Unit in the Ministry of Finance.

About the Division/Branch

The Provincial Local Finance Division provides advice to the Ministry of Finance on policies, legislation and operational initiatives related to Ontario's property tax system, municipal funding policy and the province's overall financial relationship with municipalities.

The Municipal Funding Policy Branch is responsible for providing oversight and advice on fiscal arrangements with municipalities.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• provide qualitative and quantitative analysis and advice on a wide range of provincial-municipal finance issues related to municipal funding and property tax policy
• assist senior staff in the preparation of briefing materials for the Minister and other senior management
• conduct research and data analysis relating to the government's municipal strategies and policy priorities
• develop and maintain a network of key partners and stakeholders across all levels of government
• represent the branch on intra/inter-ministerial committees

How do I qualify?

Analytical and Research Skills:

• You can analyze issues and provide strategic policy advice
• You have experience acquiring data and information from a variety of sources and integrating information from different sources

Technical Expertise:

• You understand economic objectives and policy development and decision-making processes
• You understand municipal funding or municipal and/or public finance processes
• You have knowledge of economic theories, quantitative analysis and financial management

Communication and Relationship Building Skills:

• You have experience preparing briefing materials for senior management
• You are able to manage relationships and liaise with stakeholders

Problem Solving Skills:

• You are able to synthesize information and turn data into information
• You have experience finding data trends from large amounts of data
• You have experience identifying data problems and providing creative solutions

Computer Skills:

• You have knowledge of spreadsheets and other data modelling tools and techniques
• You have experience using databases or statistical software for complex financial, economic or other quantitative analysis
