About the job

The Ontario Science Centre is seeking motivated and skilled individuals to provide caring, warm and friendly service to our visitors. The successful candidate will provide excellent visitor care/customer service at ticket entrance, OMNIMAX theatre, and special exhibits, anticipating and seeking to meet or exceed visitor needs.

Please note that these positions are irregularly scheduled from 0 - 36.25 hours per week with no guaranteed minimum, and may include evening, weekend and statutory holiday work. Hours are scheduled on an as-needed basis during natural school breaks (summer/winter holidays, March break), in accordance with the OSC's operating hours. The OSC is open 364 days per year, closed only on Christmas day, December 25.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

• Availability - weekends, holidays, and at least two weekdays per week
• You must be 15 years of age or older as of the first day of employment
• You must be a resident of Ontario
• You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Students are also required to have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired
• You must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution or are within six months of graduation on the first day of employment

•Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and proven commitment to visitor care
•Ability to demonstrate a caring, warm and friendly approach to customer service and acquire knowledge of customer service principles and best practices
•Provide accessible, engaging and supportive customer interactions, in keeping with the service standards of the Ontario Science Centre
•Demonstrates ability to work in a high volume, front-line service environment, dealing courteously with large numbers of customers/visitors
•Demonstrates understanding of tact and diplomacy during interactions with people, or understanding implied from volunteer or employment experience listed

Communication Skills

•Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
•Proven ability to perform well independently and as a member of a team
•Demonstrates good use of judgment and problem-solving skills to resolve issues
•Ability to communicate clearly, politely, enthusiastically and persuasively
•Ability to acquire product, program, and pricing knowledge to respond to customer inquiries
•Demonstrates experience giving direction and delivering instructions to large groups of people

Organizational Skills and Attention to Detail

•Multi-tasking skills and the ability to quickly shift focus in a high paced service and sales environment
