What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• participate in internal/external cross-program project teams and communities of practice
• support senior staff in consultations, negotiations and relationship building with Indigenous communities and organizations
• conduct program and policy analysis to support Ministry outcomes related to Indigenous affairs
• develop and implement mechanisms for tracking ministry policy and program outcomes
• participate in strategic planning, communications and consultation activities

How do I qualify?

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

• You have knowledge and awareness of policy priorities, social, economic, cultural and demographic trends, issues and innovations in Indigenous relations.
• You have knowledge of policy design and development processes to participate in the development of legislation, regulation, guidelines on cross-divisional teams.
• You have proven policy research skills including environmental scanning, modelling and trend forecasting.
• You understand government decision making processes.

Interpersonal and Communications Skills:

• You have proven negotiation and interpersonal skills to support a consensus approach to engagement on mutual interests.
• You can summarize and provide clear advice and recommendations to senior management.
• You have well developed communications skills to prepare technical reports, proposals and presentations.
• You have a high degree of tact and diplomacy to build and develop relationships with government representative and indigenous organizations.
• You have proven facilitation skills to work harmoniously with project teams.

Analyzing and Problem Solving Skills:

• You can analyze data, records and other sources of information to contribute to overall program development.
• You can assess implications and report on the impacts of proposed policy/program changes.
• You have the ability to evaluate the level of sensitivity within groups and communities affected by policy.

Other Important Skills:

• You have project management skills to plan, organize and execute initiatives.
• You can work independently.
• You are familiar with standard software programs and tools such as databases, internet, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and email to conduct research, analysis and prepare materials.
