Indigenous Internship Program The Indigenous Internship Program (IIP) is a 12-month paid internship program designed to provide recent Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) post-secondary graduates, with the opportunity to gain professional level work experience and a pathway through which they can build and develop transferable skills that can be used to gain sustained employment in their field of choice.
You must self-identify as an Indigenous person to be eligible for this program. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.

As the Strategic Services Intern, where will have the support of a dedicated and welcoming team, a hands-on manager to ensure your success and development, and you will be assigned a mentor who will help in your professional growth, you will:
• assist in the coordination and development of strategic initiatives and projects related to Ontario's resource sector
• provide program support for projects and activities in the Strategic Support Unit, including assisting in the design and preparation of project plans, and tracking, monitoring and reporting on project deliverables
• conduct research and analysis in support of new and existing programs and projects, to develop options and best practices

• facilitate and participate in working groups and the development of policies, tools and guidelines
• undertake research to support mineral sector strategic planning and policy direction

• attend meetings with provincial government colleagues, including federal/provincial/territorial working groups, and Indigenous partners to acquire additional knowledge and information that supports the ministry's mineral sector policy development strategies and objectives as well as capacity funding in Indigenous communities.

How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• You must have graduated or will complete the requirements to graduate with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate from a recognized or legally authorized post-secondary institution in the last five years (May 2018-June 2023).
• You must self-identify as an Indigenous person. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.
• You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Project management and organizational skills:
• You have excellent organizational and planning skills to coordinate multiple concurrent projects and work with senior staff to ensure projects are executed effectively.
• You have knowledge of project management best practices to plan projects, document progress, manage change and measure outcomes.
• You have knowledge of project coordination and client/stakeholder consultation techniques.
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• You have demonstrated written and verbal skills to consult with various stakeholders/program managers/directors and to develop clear and concise materials and presentations.
• You can participate and contribute to working groups, committees and project teams.
• You have promotion and marketing skills providing the ability to develop plans and materials showcasing Ontario's investment and mineral potential.
Research, analytical and problem-solving skills:
• You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and you enjoy finding the root cause of problems and providing recommendations for effective solutions
• You can assist in conducting research, collecting information and data, and compiling it in a clear format.
• You have knowledge of performance measurement methodologies and evaluation techniques.
Computer proficiency:
• You are proficient using common office productivity software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and OneNote.
