Indigenous Internship ProgramThe Indigenous Internship Program (IIP) is a 12-month paid internship program designed to provide recent Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) post-secondary graduates, with the opportunity to gain professional level work experience and a pathway through which they can build and develop transferable skills that can be used to gain sustained employment in their field of choice.
You must self-identify as an Indigenous person to be eligible for this program. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.

Treasury Board Secretariat (1 position at 375 University Ave, Toronto)Controller General-Office of the Chief Risk Office / Risk Advisory OfficeThe Risk Advisory Office provides advisory services to our ministry and related agency partners on their risk management practices. Our work spans across the OPS, and covers topics as diverse as human resources, capital funding, program management, etc. Our mandate is to bolster each ministry's risk practices, so as to improve the OPS' ability to identify and manage system risks across the enterprise. In this internship position, you will be working alongside our management team and staff to assist us in identifying opportunities to align practices within our teams, identify best practices from other sectors/industries to embed, and help validate continuous improvement processes within the teams
Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (1 position at 40 St. Clair Avenue west, Toronto)Strategic Human Resources Branch, Organizational Dynamics UnitThe Indigenous Intern will be working in the Organizational Dynamics Unit, Strategic Human Resources Branch, Corporate Management Division where they will be supporting ministry-wide employee experience, health and safety and organizational support projects for the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. This will include supporting the overall culture and operations of the ministry by:
• Assisting in enhancing employee experience (EE) by communications/analysis of survey results, supporting identifying priority areas of improvement for ministry, division and branches and developing programs to enhance staff and manager engagement.
• Assisting in leading the ministry health and safety (H&S) governance model and ministry's mental health strategy; coordinating ministry health and safety priorities, policies and initiatives.
• Assisting in leading employee experience programs such as New to MECP Managers orientation program, new employee orientation events, MECP Career Talks, Mental Health training, remote working, virtual and digital tools support, etc.
• Assisting in leading ministry formal and informal recognition programs including MECP Recognition Awards, High Five program, Quarterly Century Club (QCC), and the Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medal (POESM).
• Reviewing training and developing new trends for the ministry to identify future learning opportunities.
Ontario Science Centre (1 position at 770 Don Mills Rd, Toronto) Corporate Services, Human Resources DepartmentThe Indigenous Intern will be working in the Human Resources Department in the Corporate Services Branch where they will be supporting the employee experience, health and safety as well as organizational support projects for the Ontario Science Centre (OSC). This will include supporting the overall culture and operations of the ministry by:
• assisting with full cycle recruitment and maintaining our diversity lens
• assisting in enhancing employee experience by communications, identifying priority areas of improvement for divisions and branches and developing programs to enhance staff and manager engagement
• assisting in leading the ministry health and safety (H&S) governance model and ministry's
• coordination of COVID-19 responses, policies and protocols; coordinating health and safety priorities, policies and initiatives
• reviewing training and developing new trends for the ministry to identify future learning opportunities
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• You must have graduated or will complete the requirements to graduate with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate from a recognized or legally authorized post-secondary institution in the last five years (May 2018-August 2023).
• You must self-identify as an Indigenous person. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.
• You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Knowledge of human resources practices:
• Knowledge of human resources programs and human resources administration to support the coordination of initiatives, activities, services, programs and products, and provide project and logistical assistance. This includes HR information systems and/or databases to access data to support the gathering of appropriate information for specific HR-related purposes and prepare various information summaries.
• You can interpret and apply legislation, policies, processes and procedures
Project Management:
• You can plan, design, develop, support, and implement projects within competing timelines.
• You can develop a range of project materials including project plans, summaries, reports, and presentations.
• You can work with others to provide research and program support on programs, projects and initiatives and can provide information using discretion to ministry staff, stakeholders, and other ministries.
• You can respond to enquiries regarding the status of outstanding project activities and deliverables in relation to the Unit.
Research and analytical skills:
