What can I expect to do in this role?

In this position, you will:
• Provide technical and organizational services associated with pavement evaluation
• Provide training and advice to technicians and assisting in resolving problems with hardware and software
• Develop, implement, and maintain engineering applications of advanced technology systems
• Provide expert advice in specific pavement evaluation and management fields

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have a valid Class G driver's license and an acceptable driving record, including ability to pass MTO's operator driving test and operate vehicles and equipment independently.

Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge and experience with data processing techniques, computer programming, database management, operation and maintenance of computer systems and applications, and designing, developing, implementing and maintaining engineering applications for advanced technology systems (e.g., ARAN,GPR , ASTM brake force tester).
• You have knowledge of basic physical sciences to determine technical procedures, select test sites, determine sampling locations, and/or carry out appropriate field work, research investigations and tests.
• You have knowledge of testing standards, engineering materials used in the construction and maintenance of provincial highways, control systems and procedures, the principles of quality assurance, automated and manual testing equipment.
• You have knowledge of health and safety practices and guidelines, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG).

Analytical and Evaluative Skills:

• You have analytical skills to develop, implement and supervise effective pavement testing and data processing.
• You have the ability to interpret results of complex and specialized tests and conduct investigations, research, statistical analyses, and test procedures accurately and consistently.
• You have analytical and evaluative skills to select or develop standards and alternative testing procedures.
• You have mechanical diagnostic skills to respond to equipment test data and information.
• You have manual dexterity and visual acuity to carry out complex calibration for test equipment.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• Interpersonal skills to relate to colleagues and stakeholders.
• You have oral communication and presentation skills to lead a small team, troubleshoot equipment issues, deliver training, make presentations and to give/obtain information (e.g., explain technical issues, seeking quotes, placing orders, etc.).
• You have written communication skills to create project plans, accurate reports, letters and other documents in clear technical or plain language using specialized network systems and desktop software applications for word processing, spreadsheet and database management, report generation, presentation, etc.
• You have interpersonal skills to participate on teams, maintain good working relationships with colleagues and other partners.

Organizational Skills:

• You have the demonstrated ability to manage large volume of data, data retrieval and archiving.
• You have the demonstrated ability to plan, organize and perform testing, arrange to procure necessary supplies and maintenance services for vehicles and equipment used for conducting tests.
