The Child Welfare & Protection Division leads policies, legislation, and programs that deliver core child welfare services and is currently engaged in a multi-year Child Welfare Redesign Strategy. The work of the of the Child Welfare Operations Unit supports redesign through driving improved system accountability, efficiency, and sustainability.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• Provide financial and service data management and related advice to corporate and regional staff.
• Provide leadership to project work groups
• Collaborate with the other ministry branches in the implementation of key child welfare and out of home care reform priorities and program recommendations
• Develop correspondence, option papers, briefing notes, issues management plans, contentious issue reports, Cabinet and Management Board submissions, evaluation reports and internal working papers
• Represent the branch on ministry, inter-ministry and intergovernmental committees, task forces, work groups, project teams, networks
• Develop critical stakeholder relationships with external partners

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge

• You have knowledge of policy analysis and program development and evaluation
• You have the ability to acquire knowledge of ministry legislation, policies, standards and programs
• You have the ability to acquire knowledge of financial planning processes/practices, analyze financial reports

Research and Project Management Skills

• You have research and project management skills and issues management skills to develop, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate a variety of initiatives
• You can lead multi-disciplinary transformational projects from concept to completion

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

• You have oral and written communication and presentation skills to write clear, concise reports
• You can provide policy and program advice, and to explain policy and program recommendations
• You have briefing and presentation skills to brief various stakeholders on critical child welfare and out of home care program issues
• You have consultation, partnership building and relationship management skills to establish key stakeholder linkages
• You have consensus-building and negotiation skills to gain support for ministry policy and program initiatives from other ministries

Analyzing and Problem Solving Skills

• You have analytical skills both quantitative and qualitative to analyze program data and information
• You have knowledge of service and financial data analysis by collecting, interpreting and analyzing program data and performance measures
• You have the ability to process and distil information from a range of sources, including research and scientific data, trends analyses, and independent research to identify issues

Computer Skills

• You have knowledge of computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and databases to create data sets, perform analysis, prepare reports and presentations
• You are familiar with databases and statistical packages for analysis of data
