The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) has an opening for an experienced law clerk in the Legal Services Department.

What can I expect to do in this role?

The law clerk will assist legal counsel in preparing, compiling, serving and filing documents in court, including applications for judicial review and appeals; before administrative tribunals, including the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and Ontario Labour Relations Board; and in other proceedings and matters, including complaints, workplace investigations, grievances, arbitrations, mediations etc. The law clerk will also be responsible for drafting documents, conducting research, and providing administrative support to the Director of Legal Services and legal counsel.

How do I qualify?

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent working knowledge of the Courts of Justice Act, Rules of Civil Procedure and practice directions issued by the courts
  • Familiarity with the rules of procedure of relevant administrative tribunals
  • Excellent working knowledge of document management solutions used by Ontario courts and the Supreme Court of Canada, including CaseLines
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, compile, serve and file large volumes of documents in paper and electronic form and to manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail


The successful candidate will also have a minimum of two years of experience providing support to government organizations, law firms or other organizations before the courts and administrative tribunals and in complaints.
