Bring your experience to the Ministry of Transportation, where your engineering advice and guidance will help to build the highway infrastructure for Ontario's future.
You will carry out engineering studies and evaluate the effectiveness of technical policies and standards related to concrete structures and pavements, and you will investigate the potential for new and innovative materials, technologies and processes to improve the cost-effectiveness of ministry construction and rehabilitation operations. You will work with a group of dedicated engineers and technicians to create and implement sound policies, standards, specifications and operating guidelines related to concrete materials, engineering and technology.

About the job
You will:
• provide technical expertise in concrete materials/technology, supporting the Ministry's construction/rehabilitation activities
• participate in resolving technical issues related to concrete
• assist in planning, organizing, and carrying out investigative/research projects
• assist in development of the Ministry's specifications/standards (e.g. for construction, materials and testing)
• participate in monitoring and audit activities to assess quality and consistency of services/products (e.g. inspection of production facilities)
• prepare technical documents and reports
• make technical presentations, dealing with concrete and related material technologies
Note: Travel throughout the province, to places not accessible by public transit, is required to visit structures and pavement and to attend meetings.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
• You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
Concrete Knowledge and Skills
• You understand and effectively apply the theory, principles and practices of concrete materials, engineering and technology
• You have thorough knowledge of concrete construction practices and standards related to infrastructure applications
• You have experience with assessment methods, test methods and equipment related to concrete, and their application to assess concrete performance and effectiveness of existing or new/innovative products and processes
Leadership, Planning and Policy Skills
• You can provide technical supervision to technicians, junior staff or consultants on a project specific basis
• You have excellent planning, coordination and project management skills to conduct or coordinate laboratory testing and field studies of an investigative nature
• You are able to interpret, apply and implement policies, standards and quality requirements for acceptance of services, materials, products and processes
Communication, Analytical and Interpersonal Skills
• You are able to communicate effectively to a range of audiences when providing sound engineering advice and guidance on concrete and related products
• You can provide training and make technical presentations
• You have excellent technical writing skills to develop and write formal specifications, technical reports, manuals and procedures, and prepare training materials
• You are able to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• You can analyze and investigate to assess complex or unusual problems in the field or laboratory setting
• You can solve complex problems and propose solutions
Computer Skills
• You are proficient with computer software and are able to analyze, organize and present material in electronic format (e.g. PowerPoint slide presentations, spreadsheets, manipulation of digital images)
