Join the Ontario Science Centre (OSC) – one of Canada's most visited cultural attractions and a world-renowned educational institution that attracts a million visitors a year. The OSC is currently looking for a dedicated Graphics Production, Group Leader to join the Exhibit Fabrication creative team. This position oversees our graphic production operation.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As a Graphics Production, Group Leader, you will play a crucial role in supervising staff, overseeing production, ensuring quality, making sure all deadlines are met and optimizing processes for efficiency. This is a hands-on position where beyond supervising you will also be participating in design and fabrication. Through these efforts, you will contribute to the Ontario Science Centre's success and the remarkable experience of our visitors.

Please note:The Graphics Production, Group Leader is required to be on-site at the Ontario Science Centre full-time, five days a week, at 40 hours per week.

Interviews for this role will be held on-site at the Ontario Science Centre.

How do I qualify?

Technical and Creative Knowledge

• Extensive technical knowledge to oversee day-to-day operations of the graphic and installation department, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
• Proficient in all aspects of design, production, installation, and maintenance of graphics in a museum or similar setting.
• Design/computer, practical understanding of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Sketchup, Fusion 360, Onyx RIP, Roland VersaWorks RIP
• Expert knowledge of printing materials and production methods, thorough understanding order of operations. Lamination, Large format digital printing, mural installation, working at heights, setting up files for CNC or laser cutting, hand cutting materials, vinyl weeding, face-mounting, producing high-end museum graphics.
• Knowledge and implementation of accessible design standards
• Ability to monitor equipment and ensure timely maintenance and repairs
• Strong knowledge of design and studio skills
• Ability to comprehend written technical material
• Industry experience is valued more than formal education

Leadership Skills

• Capacity to provide work planning, technical supervision and direction to a team of graphic technicians while coordinating with various related trades
• Supervisory skills to lead a team of 2-3 staff members, fostering a positive working environment
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to align production or exhibits and experiences
• Ability to transfer technical/procedural knowledge to new team members
• Problem-solving skills to resolve technical problems raised by the team members
• Exceptional collaborative and interpersonal skills

Project Management Skills

• Creative problem solver, determine to complete and deliver projects, large or small, while maintaining an open mind to shifting priorities and evolving situations. Ability to pivot and quickly prioritize tasks
• Ability to develop and optimize production schedules to meet deadlines and maximize efficiency
• Skilled and accurate estimator – able to cost materials and labour effectively
• Supervisory skills to oversee every step of the project, from production to installation
• Excellent time management and organizational skills to manage a number of project components concurrently and work under the pressure of fixed deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a project team and across departments
