About the job

This position will provide preventative facility maintenance and repairs to buildings, grounds, and equipment including:

• Erecting walls, covering with drywall and finishing
• Reinforcing and refinishing cemented areas where cracks have developed
• Installing, changing, and cleaning lighting in a variety of awkward and difficult to reach areas
• Assisting outside contractors by finishing or prepping work and by ensuring they have appropriate equipment, building access and storage space for materials
• Minor carpentry such as repairing nature trail lookouts/fences, building cabinet shelving and completing furniture repairs
• Installing and maintaining directional signs inside/outside the complex including cementing posts to affix signs

This position is also expected to perform occasional cleaning duties and provide assistance to the shipping/receiving and mail room areas as required.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

• Ability to obtain a Forklift license and Scissor Lift license
• Valid Ontario Class G driver's license or equivalent and acceptable driving record
• Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds

Technical Knowledge and Skills

• Mechanical aptitude relating to general handyman skills including carpet and tile laying, dry walling, plastering, limited carpentry, grounds maintenance, furniture installation, etc.
• Knowledge of any potential or actual dangers to health and safety in the workplace to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and report hazards as appropriate
• Working knowledge of a variety of hand and power tools including: table saw, circular saw, sanders, routers, planer, etc.

Communication Skills

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, simple plans, diagrams and blue prints
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal staff, external visitors, rental clients, and contractors
• Ability to work successfully in a team environment to coordinate workload
• Ability to train and oversee the work of temporary labour in peak load situations

Self-Management and Organizational Skills

• Ability to set priorities in order to meet deadlines in a changing environment with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills to effectively self-manage and independently resolve issues
