What can I expect to do in this role?
This position is a key contributor to the ongoing business viability of the Science Centre and by applying your financial expertise, you will:
• Coordinates financial management functions and reporting activities, and maintains financial reports to ensure accuracy of financial accounts
• Provide analysis of financial data and other key indicators of divisional performance
• Maintain the integrity of the Science Centre's financial system to ensure accurate recording and reporting
• Provide advice to management with respect to effective and efficient accounting practices
• Provide financial planning analysis in support of the development of annual operating budgets and quarterly forecasting
• Liaison between finance department and other business departments, provide financial management support to other business departments on financial policies, reports, accounting issues (i.e. cost allocations, capital purchases and disposals, special projects, etc.)
How do I qualify?
Financial Management and Administration Skills
• You have knowledge of financial and accounting procedures and practices, modern controllership principles, forecasting, internal controls, audit techniques, risk assessment principles
• You have knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
• You can interpret and apply financial policies, guidelines and procedures
• You can evaluate operations to ensure compliance with financial policies and best practices
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
• You are able to analyze, develop and operationalize internal controls, and use risk assessment/risk measurement methodologies
• You have effective analytical and problem-solving skills to conduct financial analyses and evaluate the business implications of priorities, strategies and directions
• You have strong planning and issues management skills to provide issues management, strategic advice, and evidence based decision support to program areas and senior management
• You can interpret and apply policies and procedures to provide advice to stakeholders and management
• You can develop solutions and recommendations that are practical, cost-effective and operationally efficient
Verbal and Written Communication and Consultation Skills
• You are an excellent oral communicator who can provide sound advice and accurate information on financial policies and practices to stakeholders
• You have excellent written communication skills allowing you to communicate effectively, gain support from program areas, and deliver presentations to managers and stakeholders
• You are able to develop and sustain partnership with stakeholders
Computer Skills
• You are proficient with computers and software applications including financial management and reporting systems, word processing, spreadsheets, data visualization applications and presentation applications
• You are able to conduct analysis, create reports, develop recommendations, prepare presentations and provide advice to program areas and senior management
