About the job

Intake Student:
Supporting a team in intake with a wide range of administrative functions, you may have the
opportunity to work on some or all of the following:
  • Prepare and organize correspondence, perform data entry and word-processing functions, and create a variety of documents.
  • Respond to public and/or internal inquiries.
  • Store, process, and shred files.
  • Other administrative duties as required.


Policy Student:
Supporting a team in policy development, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following types of activities:
  • Conduct research, perform analysis and synthesize information and data.
  • Develop and present summaries, options, or recommendations.
  • Prepare and file correspondence, perform data entry and word-processing functions, prepare documents, and organize and schedule activities.


Communications Student:
Supporting a team in project work and/or communications planning and delivery, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:
  • Prepare, edit, and proofread various communication/project documents (e.g. presentations, marketing material, web content, etc.).
  • Prepare and organize correspondence, perform data entry and word-processing functions, and create a variety of documents.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate communication and/or project activities.
  • Conduct research, perform analysis, and work with graphics, web publishing, photo library and/or project management software.


Information Management Student:
Working as part of a team that ensures information is collected, organized, retained, reported on, and access-controlled in a manner that meets business needs, you will have the opportunity to perform activities such as:
  • Network drive cleanups in advance of a file migration project through tasks including file planning, deduplication, file renaming operations, tagging, etc.
  • Tracking access control requirements in the current state and ensuring they are addressed in the future state environment.
  • Supporting the design of and populating a physical records management inventory within SharePoint online.


Finance Student:
Supporting a team on a range of financial and business projects and initiatives, you may have the opportunity to work on some or all of the following activities:
  • Prepare, verify, process, and reconcile financial data.
  • Support staff in developing business proposals, reports, spreadsheets, and other business/financial documents.
  • Prepare and organize correspondence, perform data entry and word-processing functions, and create a variety of documents.

Intern Job Requirements:

Preference will be given to post-secondary students enrolled in a discipline relevant to business administration, privacy, communications, information technology or finance.

Job Requirements for Intake Student:
  • Accurately track, retrieve, and archive files; you apply your knowledge and/or experience with electronic file and paper management systems to secure, classify, manage, and store documents.
  • Ensure the integrity of IPC records is maintained in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Collect, organize, review, and verify information/data through review of files, reports, and other means.
  • Apply your discretion and sensitivity skills when working with confidential information.

Job Requirements for Policy Student:
  • Demonstrated interest in contemporary privacy issues (such as ethics, law, surveillance, policing, government, technology, children's privacy, or other relevant areas of interest)
  • Research and analytical skills to seek out, evaluate and synthesize relevant information.
  • Written and verbal communication skills to effectively summarize, document and share findings.
  • Initiative and organizational skills to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Interpersonal skills, including a professional, collaborative manner and good judgment.
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office programs.


Job Requirements for Communications Student:
  • Strong writing and editing skills and demonstrated ability to influence and develop accurate and persuasive content.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office programs, WordPress, and desktop publishing programs.
  • Demonstrated experience using social media platforms and tools to build brand awareness.
  • Experience in graphic design.
  • Attention to detail, strong follow-through, and the ability to remain organized and responsive to multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including a professional manner and good judgment.


Job Requirements for Information Management Student:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to understand stakeholder needs and expectations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of records and information management theories and standards and experience applying them in a real-world setting.
  • Enrollment in a Masters' program focusing on records and information management is considered an asset.
  • Experience with using Microsoft Excel is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint Online is considered an asset.
  • Experience with digital file migrations is considered an asset.


Job Requirements for Finance and Administration Student:
  • Input data accurately and generate reports paying close attention to detail.
  • Conduct research, perform analysis (i.e. quantitative, qualitative, statistical) and synthesize and summarize information.
  • Collect, organize, review, and verify information/data through review of files, reports, and other means.
  • You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize, and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines.
