What can I expect to do in this role?
• To assist in providing advice and support with respect to proposals and activities related to crown and municipal land use planning, resource management planning and environmental assessment.
• To assist and participate in the input and review of land use and resource management policy documents, broad scale or landscape level projects, proposals and environmental assessment documents
• To assist and participate in the delivery of land use planning, resource management planning advice and training to project teams, district staff and external agencies and clients.
• To assist in providing interpretation, explanation and advice to clients and stakeholders regarding Crown, municipal and resource management planning legislation, policy and procedures.
How do I qualify?
Eligibility:
• Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
• Graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, post-graduate certificate or diploma within the last 4 years.
• Candidates are only eligible to participate in one MNRF 12-month placement and must not have participated in the MNRF internship program in the past.
• Not a permanent employee in the Ontario Public Service.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge• Knowledge and understanding of legislation and policies governing municipal and crown land use planning, resource management and environmental assessment. Good understanding of the theory, principles, and practices of crown and municipal land use planning, natural resource management and environmental assessment.
• Knowledge of worker responsibility as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
Analytical and Research Skills• Basic analytical and problem-solving skills to review, analyze and evaluate Ministry data and information from staff and stakeholders to determine application of policy, and contributing to problem resolution options.
• Good organization and time management skills to allow for the review of materials and completion of assigned tasks.
Communication and interpersonal skills• Good verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation skills to assist in preparation for or participate in stakeholder meetings or public consultation processes or in responding to public inquiries.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment to interact with staff, members of industry, stakeholder groups, resource users and the general public.
Computer Skills• Good knowledge of office computer applications in order to access email, organize and analyze data and prepare reports.
