The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is a regulatory agency that reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General. The AGCO is responsible for regulating the alcohol, gaming, horse racing and private cannabis retail sectors in Ontario, in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.

We are looking to hire a Senior Manager, Finance (Special Projects) in the Corporate Services Division, Finance & Administration Branch, who will be responsible for leading one or more concurrent special projects from inception to close-out. Being the key to the design of the solution, you will work closely with all levels of the AGCO and other key stakeholders to ensure optimal project completion.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Director, Finance & Administration, with a dotted reporting line to the Chief Administrative Officer, in this role, you will:
  • Manage special projects related to finance and administration (e.g., long-term funding frameworkI).
  • Lead business improvement activities related to finance and administration.
  • Provide leadership to the teams made of direct reports and others from across the organization.
  • Ensure that the project objectives, scope, performance measures, governance, requirements, and resources are well defined, in consultation with executives, executive sponsor(s), and stakeholders.
  • Devise strategies for finding relevant and sustainable solutions for projects providing strategic advice to leadership.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the external parties (e.g., reporting ministry, other government agencies).
  • Manage planning, development, and implementation of project(s) to ensure deliverables are achieved working with cross functional teams from across the organization.
  • Manage budgets, contracts, vendors, procurements as required.


How do I qualify?

The ideal candidate will have:

  • University degree supplemented by a Canadian professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA, CGA, CMA, CA)
  • 8-10 years of progressive experience in financial and business management.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in project planning, implementation, management principles and methodologies, business analysis.
  • Strong writing skills to produce business cases, reports, briefings, and requirements documentation
  • Expertise in the use of financial information systems (e.g., Oracle – Oracle Financials, Oracle Fusion)
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging strong verbal, and communication skills to prepare and deliver presentations to wide range of audiences, including senior executives.
  • Exceptional stakeholder/client management skills specifically highly developed influencing skills.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills to participate in the review of current practices/processes, and the development of new processes, to assess impacts of changes on the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Highly developed business acumen.
  • Sound knowledge of the Acts, Regulations, Rules, regulatory frameworks and standards, and relevant Commission policy and procedures and ability to interpret and apply to work.
  • Public sector experience is an asset.
