The Exhibit Support department at the Ontario Science Centre is looking for highly motivated persons to clean, dust, wash and perform ongoing maintenance of exhibits, specialty items, prototypes, and structures for large shows and projects.

Please note:
As part of the Ontario Science Centre's current transformation, please be advised that we are looking to hire for these two work locations:

• CF Sherway Gardens - 25 The West Mall, Etobicoke
• Harbourfront Centre - 235 Queens Quay West, Toronto

These positions are irregularly scheduled for 0-40 hours per week with no guaranteed minimum. Hours are scheduled on an as-needed basis. Work on weekends, holidays and evenings is also required, in accordance with Ontario Science Centre's operating hours and special events/after-hours schedule.

What can I expect to do in this role?

• Ensure that all exhibits at the Ontario Science Centre are kept clean and presentable by cleaning, dusting, washing, and vacuuming exhibits.
• Perform high-level cleaning with the use of ladders, scaffolding or scissor lifts
• Report exhibit malfunctions and defective equipment.
• Follow health and safety procedures when disposing of chemicals, and when using cleaning equipment.
• Assist skilled trades team members by performing tasks such as moving exhibits, stage set up and removal, organizing storage areas, and operating basic hand and power tools

How do I qualify?

Technical Skills

• Proven ability in cleaning and maintaining exhibits, trade shows or related environments
• Basic mechanical aptitude and computer skills
• Knowledge of operating a wide range of hand tools
• Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations as it pertains to the work
• Knowledge and ability to operate aerial lifting devices including scaffolds and ladders
• Physical ability to move and lift heavy objects and dexterity to operate powered cleaning equipment and hand/power tools

Self-Management Skills

• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Communication Skills

• Connect and communicate information to peers, staff from other departments and visitors
• Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and oral and written communication skills.
