What can I expect to do in this role?
• provide research and analysis supporting the Ministry's initiatives, with a specific emphasis on system planning, electricity generation, supply and demand and investments
• lead a variety of Ministry projects and initiatives by establishing objectives and procedural methods, determining work priorities, managing contracts and conducting reviews
• prepare cabinet submissions, policy documents, briefing materials and provide policy oversight to drafting government legislation, regulations, directives and shareholder resolutions
• liaise with energy stakeholders to monitor trends and emerging issues and represent the Ministry at stakeholder committees, task forces and discussion groups
How do I qualify?
Energy Sector and Policy Expertise:
You have knowledge of:
• theories, principles, practices and methodologies of Public Policy, economics, and finance to develop policy options
• environmental issues, regulatory issues, economics, energy supply, demand and planning issues and the energy industry to lead policy analysis and development
• the field of energy (such as electricity markets), and the ability to interpret and apply energy related legislation such as the Electricity Act, the Ontario Energy Board Act and the Green Energy Act.
• policy development and modification processes to suggest strategies associated with possible policy alternatives
Research and Analytical Skills:
• you can undertake demanding research and analytical studies to support initiatives
• you have analytical skills to assess the impact of initiatives and develop sound policy options to support goals
• you can provide analytical support to senior executives through the provision of technical and specialized briefings
Communication Skills:
• you can liaise with a variety of stakeholders to address issues, serve as technical advisor to project teams and participate on task forces and discussion groups
• you can consult with senior executives and stakeholders to provide advice on initiatives related to Energy supply, interpretation of legislation and provide briefings
Computer Proficiency:
• you are proficient in using computer software to prepare reports, presentations, correspondence and conduct research
