Established over 125 years ago, The Niagara Parks Commission has been a custodian and steward of one of the world's natural wonders along with many of Niagara's inspiring environmental and historical treasures. In the extensive 1,325 hectare portfolio, Niagara Parks' properties consist of family attractions, golf courses, historic sites, a horticultural school, restaurants and a butterfly conservatory. In addition, Niagara Parks operates its own police service, visitor transportation system, road and snow maintenance, and community and recreational facilities. There is also a 56 km recreational trail and the scenic Niagara Parkway. From its inception, this provincial agency has been completely self-sufficient, operating at no cost to the Ontario taxpayer, but is a publically accountable organization.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Assistant General Manager, the Solicitor will lead and direct the delivery of legal and legislative services for the organization and Board. As a member of the senior management team, you will engage in strategic business planning, policy development and decision making to achieve the mission, vision and strategic goals of the organization.

How do I qualify?

Qualifications:

• Proven leader in a legal environment with an LLB or JD degree and member in good standing of the Ontario Bar.
• Demonstrated success in a legal capacity preferably in an in-house municipal or government agency environment.
• A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in conducting POA prosecutions, negotiating, structuring and advising on various types of contracts related to a variety of corporate initiatives and providing opinions on legislative and corporate matters.
• Technical knowledge of relevant statutes and regulations, judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative rules of procedure; advanced knowledge of computer and office software and legal implications of e-commerce, social network sites and point of sale systems.
• Sound judgement, excellent negotiation, presentation and communication skills, both orally and in writing, the ability to work under tight deadlines and requirements.
• Strong organizational and research skills; a high level of ethical and professional conduct.
