Are you looking for a demanding, challenging and exciting career opportunity? If so, bring your knowledge of forest fire fighting to the Ministry of Natural Resources.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
• provide group leadership, technical guidance and coordination of Fire Ranger crews
• assist in the planning and implementation of the regional fire management program that includes training, prevention, prescribed burning, suppression and equipment maintenance and development
• promote and enhance the safety management system
• work in progressively challenging fire line assignments such as sector leader or division supervisor
• act in the Sector Response Officer function as required

Note: This position will require travel and work in any area of the Province and/or Canada when necessary.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirements:

• qualified at a minimum of Fire Incident Commander Level 5 (requires Initial Attack Incident Commander Course SP300 or equivalent)
• physical ability to meet the demands of fire suppression activities
• ability to work for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions
• possess a valid restricted radio-telephone operator's certificate
• possess a valid driver's licence

People skills:

• demonstrated group leadership skills
• possess strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
• demonstrated analytical, planning, and coordination skills

Technical knowledge:

• possess initiative and the ability to assimilate new fire suppression strategies, tactics and techniques in a variety of fire control circumstances, and to understand and meet objectives with available resources
• knowledge of aerial operations, and fire behaviour observation and predictions
• knowledge of and ability to operate and maintain forest fire suppression equipment and related equipment including pumps, chainsaws and foam injection unit
• ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation such as the Forest Fires Prevention Act and other related legislation, policies and procedures

General skills:

• ability to use geographic information systems (GIS)
• working knowledge of computer applications and word processing, databases, internet, electronic mail software and decision support systems
• understanding of worker and supervisor responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
