Bring your talents in oral and written communication skills to the Ministry of the Attorney General to provide Judicial Assistant support services to the Judiciary of the Superior Court of Justice in Ottawa.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role you will:

• Type and transcribe from dictaphone tapes, handwritten drafts, correspondence, judgments and legal documents;
• Compose and type correspondence in response to inquiries from legal profession, the general public, government and agencies;
• Transcribe, type and proofread materials, including correspondence;
• Screen all calls;
• Maintain and manage Justices' calendars and schedules and arrange for travel;
• Set appointments for Judges;
• Maintain judicial libraries;
• Process invoices and travel claims; and maintain expense accounts;
• Provide support to Justices on committees;
• Process mail, maintain filing system and access information on databases;
• Assist with other duties as required.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

•You have typing skills to 50 words per minute.
•You have dicta skills to OPS standards.
Note that testing will be administered prior to interview.
• Proficiency in English and French at the Superior Level.

Legal Assistant knowledge:

• You can demonstrate legal and administrative working knowledge;
• You have demonstrated knowledge of and experience with legal office and court procedures;
• You understand legal terminology;
• you have working knowledge of the legal secretarial field.

Communication Skills:

• You have written communication skills to type letters, reports and draft minutes and proofread for spelling and grammar, editing and attention to detail;
• You have oral communication skills to perform reception duties;
• You have tact and discretion to deal with sensitive, confidential situations.

Administrative skills:

• You have knowledge of administrative and financial processes;
• You have proven organizational skills and ability to work with strict deadlines and in a fast paced work environment;
• You have excellent judgment and initiative to prioritize work, analyze and resolve problems;
• You are able to work independently or in a team environment;
• You are comfortable with computers and all aspects of desktop software such as word processing, databases, email, spreadsheet preparation and creating presentations;
• You have analytical skills to respond to issues.
