What can I expect to do in this role?
You will:
• provide expert advice and analysis on issues and decisions related to the ministry's business arrangements and relationship with the Ontario forest industry
• act as the region's primary liaison with the forest industry on matters related to new mills, mill closures or mill reconfiguration
• lead the review of forest company business plans and proposals respecting facility and/or operations changes from the perspective of the Industry Development Section programs and collaborate with Forestry Industry Division staff and other regional offices
• provide regional economic impact analysis relating to existing and proposed forest resource legislation and regulations relating to the forest industry and communities
• collaborate with experts in other regions and other ministries
• prepare minister's and house briefing notes, special project reports and correspondence
• participate on special task teams established to address cross region or province wide issues, project or policy development
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
• valid driver's license to conduct frequent site visits
Specialized knowledge:
• through knowledge of the forest industry, its economic significance regionally and globally, and emerging trends and competitiveness related to the forest
• ability to interpret and apply related legislation, regulation, policies, procedures and programs applicable to the forest industry
• experience working with business, finance and economic theory and tools, including economic modeling and wood supply and demand modeling
People skills:
• well developed interpersonal, facilitation and communication skills to prepare information notes, and present ideas and issues to senior management
• demonstrated ability to influence and achieve results through others
General skills:
• analytical, strategic thinking, innovation, project management and negotiation skills
• demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to take initiative and work under pressure
• proficient computer skills using a variety of software such as word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
