A challenging opportunity exists with the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario in the Policy Unit, to explore emerging technologies and review the impact on privacy for the citizen of Ontario.

What can I expect to do in this role?

As Policy & Information Technology Officer, you will: review, research, and analyze the privacy implications of major policy measures undertaken by government/private sector organizations, particularly in the area of information technology; develop, research and prepare policy papers relating to information technology and privacy; analyze IT-related initiatives for compliance with provincial, municipal and health access and privacy legislations; conduct environmental scanning of emerging issues and trends/technologies; represent the Commission at speaking engagements.

How do I qualify?

Qualifications:

Knowledge of emergent information technology issues, particularly related to privacy and privacy enhancing current technologies, the Internet, wireless technology, data mining and ID management; expertise in policy development, research, analysis and evaluation, to lead, coordinate and conduct policy research and analysis, and provide expert policy and analysis; knowledge of the IT industry environment, strategic directions; Specific technical knowledge required includes expertise in software, hardware, IT environments; concepts, models and tools; working knowledge of technology architecture; understanding of software packages; working knowledge of database concepts, tools, table structure models; understanding of data modeling tools; working knowledge of software integration; political acuity and ability to anticipate and manage contentious issues and contribute towards cross-jurisdictional initiatives and projects; proven research, analytical, evaluation and problem solving skills; excellent interpersonal, facilitation, consultation, project planning and stakeholder relationship skills to plan, coordinate and manage initiatives, complex projects, and activities, with sound negotiations and presentation skills; superior project management skills to coordinate and monitor multiple, concurrent and complex projects; demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills to develop project and policy documents for technical and non-technical audiences.
