Are you a registered nurse looking for a new challenge in the GTA? Consider this unique opportunity with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Toronto East Detention Centre.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:
-provide group leadership and general supervision to the General Duty Nurses by assignment of duties, counseling and instruction, orientation, problem-solving and assistance in the implementation and evaluation of health care interventions for inmates;
-provide front-line care to offenders including emergency intervention;
-conduct assessments (psycho-social, clinical);
-participate in multi-disciplinary team health care planning and conduct evaluations as required.

How do I qualify?

MANDATORY:

- You must have current registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse with the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario;
- You must have valid First Aid/ CPR certification;

SIGNIFICANT DEMONSTRATED CLINICAL NURSING EXPERIENCE:

-You have comprehensive understanding of professional standards (College of Nurses of Ontario) and thorough knowledge of/ability to apply nursing principles to adult offenders;
-You have demonstrated knowledge of nursing principles/procedures in a medical and/or psychiatric nursing and knowledge of infectious/communicable disease;
-You have proven ability to deal with emergencies and perform routines with minimal supervision;

INTERPERSONAL & GROUP LEADERSHIP SKILLS:

- You have interpersonal and group leadership skills to coordinate the day-to-day operation of the health care unit including assignment of duties, providing counseling and instruction, schedule shifts and team building;

COMMUNICATION & COMPUTER SKILLS:

-You use your effective communication skills (oral/written) to interact with inmates, medical officials, correctional staff and ministry/judicial officials;
-You have basic computer skills (MS Office);
