The Toronto Intermittent Centre requires three full-time Cleaners to provide cleaning and minor maintenance services in the general administrative and inmate occupied areas of the facility.

*Shift work and weekend work may be required.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Within a systemic change and anti-racism organizational change context that values diversity, you will perform cleaning services such as:
• Operating heavy duty industrial cleaning equipment
• Using ladders and scissor lift equipment
• Lifting/moving office equipment/furniture to allow cleaning
• Lifting and disposing of garbage
• Maintaining premises by cleaning, dusting, washing woodwork and tiles, walls and ceilings, removing wax and finishing floors, cleaning washrooms

How do I qualify?

Technical knowledge

You have:
•demonstrated knowledge of cleaning methods/process and the use industrial cleaning equipment within an institutional setting, e.g. floor polishers, vacuum cleaners, materials to perform required cleaning and housekeeping duties
•demonstrated knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) for safe handling of cleaning chemicals
•knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, security related practices and procedures to ensure compliance

Analytical and Problem Solving Skills:

•you can determine type of cleaning agent to use, plan daily priorities and tasks
•you can recognize equipment problems, need for maintenance and repairs, deficiencies or shortages in supplies
•you can identify security breaches and workplace hazards and determine when to report problems to supervisor

Communication (oral and written) and Interpersonal skills:

•you can communicate in a positive and effective manner when dealing with other staff
•you can maintain cleaning supply records and write incident reports

Other Skills:

•you have ability to meet the essential occupational requirements of the position by being able to: lift/move office equipment, furniture, garbage bags and push/pull industrial cleaning equipment
