What can I expect to do in this role?

As a key member of the Sales Tax Unit, you will:
• provide technical advice and analysis on the design of sales tax legislation
• develop strategic briefing materials, issue notes, budget papers and policy design options
• prepare detailed policy and design analysis and recommendations for legislative provisions
• work with Legal Services Branch to ensure legislation and regulations support policy intent
• liaise with other ministries, federal and other provincial governments, and tax professionals on tax design and legislative issues

How do I qualify?

Legislative Knowledge:

• You have demonstrated technical knowledge and experience with Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax legislation and administrative practices
• You have demonstrated knowledge of the legislative process and an understanding of legislation related to other jurisdictions
• You are able to translate policy into legislation and regulations and draft legal specifications for sales tax measures

Communication, Interpersonal and Negotiation Skills:

• You can prepare and deliver presentations of complex tax issues in a clear and concise manner at a level appropriate for the audience
• You can establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior officials, associates and staff at all levels
• You are able to deal diplomatically with senior staff, stakeholder groups and the public

Analytical, Research and Organizational Skills:

• You have experience developing design options and recommendations
• You are able to analyze large volumes of information and identify issues and problems
• You have proven research skills and knowledge of research techniques to assist in data analysis
• You can meet deadlines consistently, manage competing priorities and work with limited direction
