What can I expect to do in this role?

Work Description:

You will assist with the implementation of Municipal Drinking Water Licensing Program with the following tasks:
• Provide technical screening of applications for drinking water licenses and permits
• Review drinking water plant schematics and approvals to develop inventory of drinking water treatment subsystem components to input to ministry databases
• Assist Senior Water Engineers by screening technical information provided with license and permit submission
• Contact municipal clients and operating authorities to identify missing or incorrect information and incorporating corrected information into draft licenses and permits
• Generate reports and statistics
• Plan, organize, coordinate and manage daily assigned work
• Work may require experience specified/listed in the questions below

Some positions require students to be 15-24 years of age (or 15-29 years of age if you are a person with a disability) due to program funding.

Qualification Requirements

Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• You apply your written communication skills to prepare a variety of documents (e.g. reports, document findings, record data, presentations, meeting minutes, etc.)
• You apply your verbal, written, listening communication skills and customer service skills to follow up with and provide information to internal clients and/or the public
• You apply your initiative and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team

Technical Skills and Knowledge
• You apply your knowledge of engineering, specifically in the field of drinking water supply and municipal infrastructure
• You apply your experience using Microsoft Office product suite, such as word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), databases; email and Internet to conduct research and prepare a variety of documents

Analytical and Organizational Skills
• You apply your evaluative and analytical skills to understand the workings of a variety of drinking water treatment technologies, and can develop inventories of treatment technologies for input into ministry databases
• You use the internet and other sources to gather and aggregate data, analyze and input data findings and summarize information
• You work independently or as part of a team; you plan, organize and prioritize your time to meet competing deadlines
